A Traditional Mineral Approach to Oral Wellness

Almost everyone agrees that strong teeth and a bright, healthy-looking smile are attractive and something worth caring for. A beautiful smile can contribute to confidence and is often seen as a sign of good health. Research confirms that there is a relationship between oral health and general wellness, a sort of "two-way street" between a healthy mouth and a healthy body.

The truth is that the mouth is not an isolated organ of the human body. Oral problems can seriously affect our general health, and there is mounting evidence that some mouth, tooth, and gum problems can be predictive of other illnesses.

Unfortunately, according to statistics reported by Forbes Health, 82% of Americans have at least one cavity by the age of 34. Eleven percent of children between two and five years old and 25% of adults have untreated tooth decay, and 47% of adults of age 30 or older have some form of periodontal disease. It’s obvious that paying more attention to our oral health is not only a smart and healthy choice but the right thing to do.

Today, a growing number of people are turning to a diet of fresh rather than processed foods, getting more exercise, and incorporating Schuessler tissue salts into their wellness routines.

Cell salts have a long history of traditional use for supporting the health of the teeth and gums and for temporary discomfort associated with dental concerns. They are widely used within homeopathic and natural wellness practice.

How Tissue Salts Support Healthy Teeth and Dental Health

In the 19th Century, Dr. Wilhelm Heinrich Schuessler conducted a study of human cell structure and discovered that human cells contain 12 distinct mineral compounds. Based on his observations, Schuessler developed the theory that imbalances in these mineral compounds could influence health and well-being.

Today, minerals including calcium, potassium, silica, iron, and magnesium are recognized for their important roles in normal physiological functions throughout the body.

The 12 tissue salts, also called cell salts or biochemical Schuessler salts, are homeopathic preparations traditionally used to support a wide range of everyday wellness needs, including the health of the teeth and gums.

For a quick overview of all 12 Schuessler cell salts and their traditional uses, see our Schuessler Cell Salts Quick Reference Chart. It’s an easy way to compare the individual mineral compounds and see where each one fits within the Schuessler system.

Tissue salts are used to support healthy teeth and gums, help maintain the mineral structure of teeth, provide support for cavity-prone teeth, and offer support for temporary discomfort associated with tooth sensitivity, dental procedures, including tooth extractions, and other dental concerns.

The following tissue salts for teeth are also used to support dry mouth and gum concerns, provide comfort during infant teething, and address a range of other dental problems. The sections below look more closely at specific tissue salts for common dental needs, and you’ll find a comprehensive repertory of cell salts for tooth health at the end of the article.

Which Tissue Salts Are Best for Oral Health

1. Tissue Salts for Strong Teeth, Healthy Gums, and Teeth Prone to Cavities

Three tissue salts have been associated with supporting strong teeth and bones: Calcarea Fluorica, Calcarea Phosphoricum, and Silicea.

Often called by their short names — Calc Fluor, Calc Phos, and Silica — these cell salts are traditionally used to support the mineral structure of tooth enamel and dentin, as well as the collagen and connective tissue important to healthy gums.

Also, consider these three tissue salts after indulging in sweets.

Highly recommended by natural health practitioner for children, adults, and as we age to maintain the strength of our teeth and overall oral health, the three cell salts for teeth are available in the form of a combination oral spray called Bone & Teeth Health Cell Salts.

Tissue salt Calc Fluor is known as the “dentist” among the cell salts. It is associated with the elasticity and resilience of body tissues and with the outer structure of teeth and bones. It is used to support healthy tooth enamel and strong bones, and is commonly included in protocols for dental and orthodontic wellness.

Tissue salt Calc Phos is associated with growth, development, and the inner structure of teeth and bones. It is also connected to nutrient assimilation and vitamin D, both important to healthy teeth, strong bones, and overall body structure. It is commonly used during periods of growth and for teething and dental development.

Tissue salt Silica is associated with connective tissue, teeth, and gum health, including support for collagen and the integrity of gum tissue. It is often referred to as the “homeopathic lancet” or “surgeon” and has a long history of use for supporting the body’s natural cleansing and restorative processes, including maintaining a clean oral environment where plaque and tartar can accumulate.

Plus, in the original Schuessler texts, Silica is the cell salt linked to brittle or fragile conditions. Silica is a tough mineral found naturally in quartz. A lack of Silica is associated with weakness, nervousness, and poor assimilation of important nutrients and minerals.

Because Silica and Calc Phos support nutrient assimilation, and Calc Phos and vitamin D complement one another in supporting healthy teeth and bones, we offer our Bone & Teeth Health Cell Salts + Liquid Vitamin D3 with K2 together in a convenient bundle.

2. Tissue Salts for Sensitive Teeth

Those who suffer from sensitive teeth know how uncomfortable dentin hypersensitivity can be. It affects your quality of life and can arise or increase unexpectedly. Avoiding foods because of tooth sensitivity, such as ice cream or hot beverages, can even make you feel left out.

Look to cell salts Calc Fluor and Mag Phos for support with tooth sensitivity. Calc Fluor is associated with the strength and resilience of the protective enamel that coats our teeth, while Mag Phos is known for nerve-related, shooting, and facial discomfort. Together, they are often used when sensitive teeth or dental nerve discomfort are a concern.

Tissue salt Mag Phos, sometimes called the “homeopathic aspirin,” is especially associated with nerve and facial discomfort and can be a useful complement to Calc Fluor in dental wellness protocols.

You may prefer to benefit from all three tooth strengthening cell salts described above and cell salt Mag Phos, if you tend to suffer from sensitive teeth, with our Dental Comfort Cell Salts Kit which combines the Bone & Teeth Health Cell Salts combo spray with a bottle of tissue salt Mag Phos.

3. Tissue Salts for Acute Dental Concerns

The same three cell salts for teeth, together with Mag Phos – bundled in our Dental Comfort Cell Salts Kit – are commonly used for temporary tooth and nerve-related discomfort. They may help calm a toothache while you are waiting to see a dentist and can also be supportive during periods of physical or mental strain, after minor injury, or when dental discomfort suddenly flares.

Consider taking Mag Phos with or in warm water, as warmth is known to enhance its soothing effect. Because toothache can quickly become severe, it is important to stay in contact with your dentist, schedule an appointment if needed, and monitor whether the discomfort is temporary and begins to subside.

If needed, cell salts can be taken every 15 minutes for three doses. Then wait an hour and, if necessary, repeat every 15 minutes. Once the discomfort is under control, reduce the frequency to hourly and eventually return to three to four times a day. If the pain persists or worsens, make sure to see your dentist.

4. Tissue Salts for Dental Pain Post Dental Treatment

Regular dental check-ups, cleanings, and necessary dental procedures are important but can cause temporary soreness and pain. The following cell salts are traditionally used for support following dental treatment and for temporary post-procedure discomfort.

Use Ferr Phos before and after your dental appointment. It is the first aid cell salt helping recover from injuries, workouts, surgeries, and dental procedures. It carries and directs oxygen where it needs to go, particularly areas in need of repair. As such, it is often used when temporary inflammation or irritation is present, including the oral cavity.

For more intense temporary discomfort, consider adding the above mentioned Mag Phos.

Many will also benefit from Kali Phos, an important nerve tonic that helps strengthen and calm the overall nervous system. It is traditionally paired with Mag Phos for facial and nerve-related discomfort, including discomfort in the jaw and TMJ area, as well as trigeminal nerve pain.

Plus, Kali Phos supports healthy gums and can alleviate bleeding gums post dental visit. It will also help make your dental visit more pleasant by helping you stay calm and more relaxed.

If you are going in for a tooth extraction or have your wisdom teeth removed, the above-mentioned cell salt Ferr Phos is recommended in combination with cleansing and healing Silica.

5. Tissue Salts for Canker Sores and Raw Mouth

Canker sores can be caused by small injuries to your mouth from a dental procedure, biting into your cheek accidentally when eating, or wearing braces. Your mouth can feel raw after a dental cleaning or eating crunchy or salty foods. You may experience dry mouth or other temporary irritation or irritation of the gums and soft tissue in your mouth.

Nat Mur is commonly considered for dry mouth and painful mouth ulcers that can erupt on the inside of your lips, on your inner cheeks, or under the tongue. Add Kali Mur that supports the healthy functioning of the mucous membranes and saliva glands for more support with rawness.

6. Tissue Salt Therapies for Gum Problems

Although gingivitis and periodontitis should always be treated by a licensed dentist, a healthy lifestyle — including proper diet, recommended daily hydration, and healthy mineral levels — is also important for healthy gums and overall oral health.

Limit snacks and sugary food and drinks, avoid tobacco, drink alcohol in moderation, if at all, and follow the recommendations for daily tooth care and regular dental exams.

If you have inflamed gums or the beginning onset of gingivitis, Robert Kopf describes a 6-week Schuessler salt regimen using the following four tissue salts for teeth and gums:

  • Calc Fluor
  • Ferr Phos
  • Kali Phos, and
  • Mag Phos*

Always work with your dentist and practice good dental hygiene. Cell salts may be used alongside professional care.

For more advanced gum concerns, Kopf describes a second 6-week combination for periodontitis, following the gingivitis regimen above:

  • Calc Fluor
  • Calc Phos
  • Kali Sulph, plus
  • Silica, associated with connective tissue support*

These regimens are intended as supportive measures and are not a substitute for professional dental treatment.

How to Take Cell Salts for Tooth and Gum Health

No matter which liquid minerals you choose to boost your oral health from among those we offer, our AnnaKare brand of vegan, lactose-free, and sugar-free tissue salts for teeth in the form of oral sprays are fast-absorbing and easy to use.

Our cell salts are made in the U.S. by experienced homeopathic manufacturers in accordance with the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States (HPUS) and applicable current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) requirements. The manufacturing facilities are FDA-registered and are known for maintaining especially rigorous internal quality standards, with a strong emphasis on consistency, purity, and careful production practices.

Simply squirt two sprays of the recommended cell salt or cell salts for your tooth concern into your mouth three or four times a day, or follow the instructions on the label. Cell salts can be taken more frequently — up to every 15 minutes — for more intense temporary discomfort, then reduce the frequency as you begin to feel improvement.

Alternatively, you can spray the liquid into a few tablespoons of water in a small glass and sip slowly. It is optimal to take cell salts in an empty mouth so they can be absorbed well by the mucous membranes.

For children under 12, mix one spray with 4–8 tablespoons of water for them to sip. As always, consult your child’s healthcare provider before introducing a new remedy into their routine.

You can also spray a day’s worth of squirts into your water bottle and sip throughout the day.
